The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award
The Gold Expedition is a four-day expedition, with three nights spent camping in wild upland areas (known as Wild Country, see below). The expedition should involve around 8 hours of planned activity, with at least four of these spent journeying.
Basic Price: £380 + VAT Per Participant – 11 Day Package
The package includes:
- 2 Days Pre Expedition Training (1 practice 1 qualifying, in expedition area).
- Practice Expedition – 4 days, 3 nights.
- 1 Day Route Planning.
- Qualifying Expedition – 4 days, 3 nights.
- Camping fees for 5 nights on both Training and Qualifying expeditions (1 night pre expedition, 4 nights on expedition).
Wild Country areas we use include, but are not limited to, Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacons and The Lake District. If you are interested in another expedition area, please get in touch.
- Personal Insurance.
- Equipment (see below).
It is generally expected that participants should provide their own equipment for expedition. We understand however that the cost of this equipment could be prohibitive for some participants, and as a result we are able to provide some equipment for hire at an additional cost. 4th Dimension hold £10 million Public Liability insurance. School journey / travel insurance is not provided, and your LEA will require this to be taken out. The DofE provide limited cover for their leaders and participants. You can find additional information on this at www.dofe.info.
Wild Country areas are defined by the DofE and are typically upland areas that are remote and relatively free from habitation. Appropriate UK areas are listed on the DofE Website here.
